NEW YORK — Federal prosecutors on Wednesday opened the criminal trial of Sam Bankman-Fried, founder of the failed cryptocurrency exchange FTX, with a simple message: He deliberately “lied to the world,” leading to one of the biggest financial frauds of a generation.Bankman-Fried’s lawyer advanced a far different narrative. SOUTH LOS ANGELES - An armed robbery suspect trying to escape arrest caused a collision that sent seven people, including three children, to the hospital Wednesday, authorities said.Three of the victims were in critical condition.The crash occurred just after 1 p.m. at Broadway and West 81st Street.According to Los Angeles Police, officers with LAPD's Community Safety Unit were trying to arrest a man on an armed robbery warrant when he sped away in a BMW."The officers were in proximity but not behind him," Lt. That car crash, which took place prior to her marriage to the New Jersey Democrat, is alleged to be the inception of a bribe in the federal indictment against the couple.According to a report from the Bogota, New Jersey, police department, Nadine Menendez struck 49-year-old Richard Koop with her Mercedes-Benz sedan in Bogota in December 2018, killing him. (KRON) -- One person is dead after they were struck by an Amtrak train in Berkeley on Wednesday, the Berkeley Police Department confirmed. The crash happened at about 5:35 p.m. near Harrison Street. The victim died at the scene. The train stopped after the crash, blocking Gilman Street. There is no estimated time for the street to reopen. The video shows a man donning a fluorescent San Francisco Public Works vest as he darts toward a hot dog vendor and pushes a cart over. CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Former NHL coach Kevin Constantine was suspended indefinitely by the Western Hockey League on Wednesday as coach of the Wenatchee Wild.The major junior league said an independent investigation determined Constantine violated WHL regulations and policies by making what it called “derogatory comments of a discriminatory nature.”The WHL said Constantine will not be eligible to apply to the commissioner for reinstatement until 2025 at the earliest.
